Invasive species surveys

Some invasive species, particularly Japanese Knotweed, present a substantial economic and practical problem for development, drainage systems and public spaces.

RMLs experienced ecologists will identify and map invasive species, and prepare programmes of management and eradication works.

Species recognised as a threat in the UK include:

  • Japanese Knotweed
  • American Signal Crayfish
  • Himalayan Balsam
  • Floating Pennywort
  • Chinese Mitten Crab
  • Topmouth Gudgeon
  • Parrots Feather
  • Australian Swamp Stonecrop
  • American Mink
  • Giant Hogweed

Japanese Knotweed is one of the biggest and most troublesome environmental nuisances facing developers and managers of land. Our experts have been working with this species since 1988, and in 1990 wrote the Welsh Development Agency Guidelines on the management of Japanese Knotweed. In 1994 RML won the inaugural Landscape Institute Research Award and the Presidents Award for its work on the species.
We advise on the most effective treatment or combination for your site and development programme.
