RuthinThe RML office is based in the historical market town of Ruthin, situated in the Vale of Clwyd with origins dating back to the 13th Century. The town is ideally placed with good connections to the motorway network yet is set in the stunning scenery provided by North Wales.

Richards, Moorehead & Laing Ltd is a multidisciplinary consultancy of Landscape Architects, Landscape Managers, Ecologists, Environmental Engineers and IT specialists. Our expertise is internationally renowned for the balance of engineering, landscape and environmental skills, and for regeneration and development projects in sensitive environments and in areas despoiled by previous uses.

Applications are invited from:

  • PROJECT ENVIRONMENTAL COORDINATORS and EIA PRACTITIONERS: designers, manager and scientists with real working experience of the statutory process, EIA and site environmental management.
  • Experienced LANDSCAPE ARCHITECTS: able to design and assess landscapes and to provide practical and pragmatic advice on integrating developments into their surroundings. Professional membership of the Landscape Institute is valued.
  • Experienced, well motivated ECOLOGISTS with good basic botanical and general species knowledge preferably with a protected species licence.

RML is an innovative landscape, environmental and engineering company with a good client base and a wide selection of exciting projects as well as an active research and development programme. Current projects are varied and interesting and located throughout the UK and Ireland. They include work on new roads, mineral extraction and quarry restoration, river engineering and slope stabilisation, landscape heritage conservation, industrial and housing development, landscape management, habitat creation and environmental monitoring. Clients include Government bodies, major contractors and consultants in a range of other disciplines.

The successful applicants will be able to work in a multi-disciplinary, multi-organisation team, in both leading and supporting roles. They will have the ability to build the confidence of clients, manage projects, write reports, work with regulatory bodies and develop innovative solutions. Professional institution membership is required, but demonstrated experience and maturity are equally important.

Applicants should also be self-motivated, willing to make a positive contribute to the team and able to work within the demands of project timetables with a minimum of supervision. The posts are based in our head office in Ruthin, North Wales, but will involve travel and periods of working on site. We can offer an attractive working and living environment in a historic market town in Vale of Clwyd, within easy reach of Snowdonia, Chester, Manchester and Liverpool. Landscape designers should be proficient in AutoCAD and Photoshop. All applicants should be proficient in Word and Excel and other relevant software use. A full UK driving licence is essential.

Specific requirements

ENVIRONMENTAL COORDINATORS and EIA PRACTITIONERS

  • Appropriate Professional membership.
  • Demonstrable ability to manage small or large projects.
  • A comprehensive understanding of the EIA process is essential
  • At least 5 years of relevant post membership experience in a suitable field, preferably in consultancy.
  • A willingness to take on demanding and challenging projects in joint-ventures with major contractors.

LANDSCAPE ARCHITECTS

Candidates should have experience including some work in consultancy, and either be:

  • Qualified Landscape Designers who are full members of the Landscape Institute with at least 5 years experience and able to contribute to a wide range of multi-discipline projects.
  • Part III and Graduate Landscape Architects with 2 or more years experience.

ECOLOGISTS

  • Experienced, well motivated ECOLOGISTS with good general species knowledge.
  • A Minimum of 3 years experience and membership of IEEM desirable.
  • Good botanical knowledge (expertise in NVC Phase 2 survey) would be a particular advantage,
  • Specialist skills in invertebrates, lichens, aquatics and fisheries and protected species licences, would be of interest.
