Soil Survey and Restoration

RML understand the relationship between plants and the land, and so can work with the existing materials to prepare the site and nurture new vegetation. We recognise that this process requires a commitment to management over many years, but by thoughtful selection of plant communities and working with nature we achieve remarkable results, often at modest cost.

Our staff will:

  • Improve subsoils and mineral wastes to avoid the need for imported topsoil on landscape and restoration schemes
  • Evaluate a sites existing resources and prepare soil management plans
  • Develop and implement strategies to establish new native plant communities on abandoned or disturbed land
  • Select and manage plant mixes to thrive on poor soils
  • Produce low cost but sustainable greening of demolition sites

Restoration management

Creating landscapes, habitats and restored areas is a process, not a single step. RML has the range of expertise and the depth of knowledge to manage this process so that timely intervention is made to guide the process in the required direction. We treat the developing soil, vegetation and animal community as a whole system.

RML will:

  • Prepare and implement management plans for habitat creation, large scale landscape schemes, restored mineral workings and similar sites
  • Conduct surveys to monitor development, and recommend action as necessary
  • Manage contractors and resources to achieve target outcomes, for highway schemes and other contracts
  • Implement and monitor the restoration of mineral workings to fulfil planning conditions
