RML have been providing ecological advice, design and management services to public and private sector clients since 1984.  Our ecologists are highly experienced in undertaking a range of ecological surveys both in England and Wales and hold relevant NRW and NE protected species survey licenses. Our ecologists have also designed and implemented numerous protected species mitigation schemes for large scale development sites as well as smaller residential sites, with particular expertise in great newt translocations schemes.

RML are able to offer the following services
  • Extended Phase 1 habitat survey – An extended Phase 1 habitat survey is in most instances a preliminary survey to identify any potential impacts from a proposed development and identifies the need for any further habitat or species-specific surveys
  • National Vegetation Classification (NVC) Surveys - Within our team we have competent botanists who are experienced in undertaking NVC surveys of a range of habitat types.
  • Protected species surveys - Our ecologists can undertake a range of protected species surveys for great crested newts, reptiles, breeding and wintering birds, bats, badgers, dormice, otters and water voles.  Click on the hyperlinks for more detailed information.
  • Invasive species surveys - Our ecologists are very experienced in surveying for invasive species and designing and implementing management plans for the control and eradication of invasive species from sites.
  • Licensed mitigation schemes - Our ecologists have experience in applying for and implementing mitigation licenses for protected species in both Wales and England
  • Ecological Clerk of Works (ECoW) - All our ecologists have worked on large scale infrastructures projects in an ECoW role, overseeing works and providing advice to client and contractors on site.  Click here for more.
  • Biodiversity Net Gain (BNG) - an increasingly important approach to achieving sustainable development through minimising and mitigating potential impacts on the environment and delivering biodiversity enhancement. BNG has rapidly risen up the political agenda and become a hot topic for local planning authorities, landowners and developers. Click here for more.
  • Water Quality Testing and Monitoring - water quality of our rivers, streams and watercourses is vital to ensure a healthy ecosystem and biodiversity.  Click here for more.
  • Achieving Phosphorous Neutrality - recent case law obliges all new projects/plans which have a potential to increase existing phosphorous levels to complete a ‘screening’ task. This is to ensure that they comply with existing habitat protection measures, defined as ‘Special Areas of Conservation or SAC’s.  Click here for more.

ENVIRONMENTAL IMPACT ASSESSMENT

Our experienced EIA team will carry out the formal Screening, Scoping and Assessment stages on your behalf.  We co-ordinate the input of specialists working with our in-house team, ensuring a readable and consistent Environmental Statement.  Where formal EIA is not required we prepare a comprehensive Supporting Statement, providing all the information that the MPA requires to grant planning approval with practical and workable planning conditions.
